Lavender Moments by Laryalee Fraser

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

Today I like to show you a poem that’s very dear to me. Unlike most poems on my blogsite, I did not wrote this one myself. I wanted to share it with you but not without the original author’s permission. So I went on a search for the original authors email address or other means of contacting her. That was not too hard. Off course I already had her name and the title of the poem. A few minutes after entering the information in Google I had found what I needed. Laryalee’s email address.

Then I wrote her a letter by email explaining that I wanted to publish her poem on my blog and why her poem was so dear to me. At the time that I had found her poem I was living with my daughter in a shelter for abused females. Not the most easy situation and I found a lot of comfort, strength and courage in her poem aside of that, I simply love lavender. I printed it and pinned it on the note board it in our room. This was years ago and my life has changed much since then, as you can read on my blog, but I always kept the poem close.

I was somewhat worried that she may not even read my email because the information I had found was a little bit outdated. Nonetheless a week later I received a heartwarming  reply from Laryalee. She was moved by the letter I had written her and  was please that I had let her know what the poem meant to me. I was lucky.. The email address I had found was indeed outdated but faith let her receive my letter anyway.  She told me she had started to write in a time of depression after her husband had died. Writing poetry helped her deal with it and I can completely relate to that. She gave me permission to publish her poem and any others if I wished to, here on my blog and share it with my readers. So here it is… Lavender Moments.

Lavender Moments

Lavender moments roll down through the greyness
that sometimes hangs heavily over our heads;
if we can just catch one and breathe in its essence,
our thoughts will go swinging on lavender threads.

Lavender moments are clear with a focus
that shows us the rush of this journey we’re on;
we suddenly see the importance of pausing
to savor the sunlight before it has gone.

Lavender moments are fresh with awareness
of all that is precious — the waking-up smile
of a loved one, the warm validations of friendship,
the markers we leave at the end of each mile.

They’re filled with an “ah”, like a soft-feathered murmur
that layers a hush on our workaday lives.
Our burdens feel lighter, our faith becomes stronger
whenever a lavender moment arrives.

The original poem is located here on her own website where you can find many more of her poems and writings. Please do pay her site a visit if you love reading poetry. I am glad I could share this poem that meant so much to me, with all of you and maybe someday someone will read it on my blog and can find just as much comfort in it as I did. Thank you Laryalee, for writing this wonderful heartwarming poem and giving me the chance to share it with my readers.
