Nosebleeds during pregnancy are pretty common and although emberassing as they can be not really anything to worry about unless its really extreem. Pregnant women actually have 30% to 50% more blood circulating in their bodies than they would normally. This blood is needed in order to maintain a healthy placenta and baby.
What causes the nosebleeds
The bloodvessels in your nose are expanded often cause of the pregnancy and your increased blood supply can easely cause the delicate vessels to rupture more easely. Simply blowing your nose can be the reason for a nosebleed. Also usualy during pregnancy a small cold is not uncommon and that can also be the reason of those allready more common nosebleeds to occure even more often.
Smoking and drinking alcohol can also cause nosebleeds, because they cause the blood vessels to become irritated and break. A lack of Vitamin C, a proven tissue builder, may also be involved in causing nosebleeds during pregnancy.
What you can do to stop the nosebleeds.
- Sit down
- Lean forward and keep your head at a level that is above your heart
- Pinch your nose firmly, just under the bridge
- Maintain pressure for at least five to ten minutes
- Don’t release this pressure until ten minutes are up – it will stop the coagulation process
- If you have some ice, put a bag of it over your nose – this will help the blood vessels to constrict
- Don’t lie down or lean your head back – this could cause you to swallow your blood, which can lead to nausea and vomiting
- Once the bleeding has stopped, try not to blow your nose for at least 12 hours
If the bleeding hasn’t stopped after ten minutes of pressure and ice, continue for another ten minutes as long as you’re not bleeding heavily. Consult your healthcare practitioner if the bleeding doesn’t stop after 20 minutes of pressure.
You’ll need a medical evaluation if you get a nosebleed following a head injury, even if you only have minor bleeding. Let your practitioner know if you have frequent nosebleeds so she can rule out underlying problems.
What can you do to prevent them.
- don’t pick your nose!
- try to blow your nose gently
- when you sneeze, keep your mouth open to relieve the pressure on your nostrils
- buy a humidifier for you house or office to keep the air nice and moist
- put petroleum jelly or saline drops in your nose to keep the mucous membranes hydrated
- drink lots of fluids, especially water
- bulk up on your Vitamin C intake as it promotes tissue healing

As I have said before most likely, this pregnancy is in no where anything like the pregnancy I had before, I remember in the beginning of that pregnancy, that was about eleven years ago, I feelt like I had a flu.. ONLY in the morning though, that had started before I knew I was pregnant.
When I was heading for work, arround 6 am in the morning I was returning back home cause I really feelt like throwing up. I actualy really did not throw up much at all. I can’t even remember throwing up to be honest. I lost the job at that time which was not a bad thing really, it was a temporary job that was only meant to be during the busy holiday season and being pregnant it probably came in a good time for me to stay home and concentrate on being pregnant. I started the feel sick arround 25 weeks pregnancy and ONLY because of a bad infection I had. aside of that I had been as healthy as could be. It must have been arround the same time that I could feel the baby move, maybe a bit later even because i recognised the movements pretty quickly this time.
I’m still not 100% and even threw up my food again today, I’m guessing I ate too much my diner where I ate a lot less stayed inside. I feel the baby’s movements a lot now and it does make me feel more secure about how its going in there XD. I have to admitt I can hardly wait till the next month when I can hopefully find out during the next ultrasound, what the baby is going to be.. a boy.. or a girl. And then I can start shopping and buying the first things and pick out the baby furniture and such. I have started to make a babybirth announcement card which ofcourse I am not going to show off yet :P. You guys will have to wait!! Antonio is not sure about the boys name we had picked and the original girl name we had picked I have changed a little bit and Antonio liked it thank goodness.. or maybe he just liked it cause he saw how much i liked it XD I’m not sure. But again also for the name you guys will ahve to wait till its born. I am not even sure if I am going to tell wheter its gonna be a boy or a girl before its born. Haha, I’m so mean!! 😛
Hugs, Danielle

Lots of good news finally, 16 weeks and 5 days pregnant, and I am finally again starting to feel better. I dont know if this “trend” is going to continue but I hope this time its not over after 1 week and i keep feeling good! I think i seriously deserve it after being in bed 3 months XD sighs.
Well I wont be jumping up and dance arround right away, I lost some weight and got to get my strength back, but aside of that I will be able to get out of bed sometimes n do a few things other then the computer XD perhaps I’ll get on with my needle work that I had started with. Just when I started feel bad again I had to put it aside. Just couldnt concentrate anymore on it.
Second good news is that I feel the little one moving inside me from time to time, I been feeling it for a while now but wanted to make sure that I was right about what I feelt. Tuesday I am going to see the midwife again, unfortunately I will have to go alone, Antonio has started with his dutch course and hes got lessons on monday, tuesday and thursday morning. So I will ahve to go alone and I really don’t look forward to that. To the meeting yes but going alone, not really, because I most likely get to hear the baby’s heart this time. Gosh I cant wait!
So far My baby news this week. Takecare all!
