Being a hero

“Heroes are made by the paths they choose, not the powers they are graced with.” ― Brodi Ashton, Everneath

And that is exactly how I feel about what makes a hero. Real-life heroes make mistakes, real-life heroes are not perfect. They do not always save lives and beat the bad guy or even risk their own lives. Then what makes a hero? Well, exactly like the quote says “Heroes are made by the path they choose.”

We all are heroes at our own moments. Some are simply heroes by fighting their everyday battles that no one is aware of. Others by supporting someone who is fighting those battles. Yes, of course, there are people who save and rescue people or animals. But have you ever thought of people who save the environment to be a hero? By preserving our environment they save more lives then we may ever know.

Those fighting the Amazon forest fires are heroes of unknown size, their names and faces go unknown but they are heroes nonetheless. Those people that are protecting wildlife in Africa or even your local forest ranger who protects plant life and animals.

And being a mom of two daughters even though they never really have given me tantrums and such, I know it can save the day when someone randomly cheers up your child and brings up a smile on their face when they are having a mood that can ruin the whole day.

What keeps us from being heroes are our fears. Mostly fears of what others may think or even say. Being a hero isn’t that hard. Just do what’s right, follow your heart, not your fears.
