What is loneliness to me?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Loneliness to me occures most times when I’m the least alone, when I am thinking of someone where I rather be at that time, and at moments that I ant to share something with someone and find myself alone. Think about watching a movie with other people or when you have a great idea. Sometimes it means longing for a certain person and at other times it \u00a0is not that important who it is you are with.\u00a0Loneliness is not the same thing as fear of being alone, I guess loneliness can be best described as unwilling solitude for a certain period of time. Its an emotional state and its more then just wanting to be around other people or do something with others. Loneliness to me means \u00a0feeling disconnected from other people and contact with other people becomes difficult then.<\/p>\n

I like being alone but that is not the same thing as \u00a0being lonely. When I feel lonely I tend to prefer to be alone and not in a group of people simply because it makes more sense to me then.<\/p>\n

Am I lonely? \u00a0At times, yes. Sure, partly because I don’t allow people to come close to me. The reason for that are my trauma’s The few people I do let come close I do not necessary trust either so that shrinks the people in my circle even further. The people that I do let come close I refuse to always lean on aside of the fact that they can not be there always either. So yes I do get lonely at times. But I try not to dwell on it because then it becomes more toxic and \u00a0triggers my trauma’s.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Existential Loneliness<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the Existentialist, a human being’s existence is a lonely existence.\u00a0 At the end of the day, we are all alone.\u00a0 Can anyone ever truly understand what it is to be you, to experience all the things you have experienced, to understand your joys and happiness, your pains and sorrows?\u00a0 Surely we can talk to other people about how we feel, we can draw pictures, we can play music, but all this attempt to communicate ultimately leaves something behind.\u00a0 We cannot always get our feelings, ideas or experiences across exactly.\u00a0 There is a painful reality that ultimately we are alone, by ourselves, and ultimately lonely.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

What Causes Loneliness?<\/strong><\/div>\n
\nAccording to research by John Cacioppo, a University of Chicago psychologist and one of the top loneliness experts, loneliness is strongly connected to genetics.<\/p>\n

Other contributing factors include situational variables, such as physical isolation, moving to a new location and divorce. The death of someone significant in a person’s life can also lead to feelings of loneliness. Loneliness can also be a symptom of a psychological disorder such as depression.<\/p>\n

Loneliness can also be attributed to internal factors such as low self-esteem.<\/p>\n

People who lack confidence in themselves often believe that they are unworthy of the attention or regard of other people. This can lead to isolation and chronic loneliness.<\/p><\/div>\n
